Self Help Promoting Institution  

Self Help Promoting Institution (SHPI) is the project implemented by the NGO in West Khasi Hills District. The programme was supported by NABARD. The main aim of the programme was to promoted 30 SHGs. Till date the NGO had promoted 58 SHGs under the programme.  All 58 SHGs had been saving linked and 30 SHGs had been credit linked. Saving mobilized was around 6.5 lakhs and credit provided by bank branches to the SHGs was around 26 lakhs.  

Out of School Programme on HIV/AIDS prevention 

15 Out of School Programmes on HIV/AIDS had been conducted by the Organisation in 15 villages of the District.  The participants in the programme were around 850. The programmes were sponsored by Meghalaya State AIDS Control Society.

Village Level Awareness Camp on HIV/AIDS 

The Organisation in collaboration with Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Shillong had conducted 15 Village Level Awareness Camps in 15 locations of West Khasi Hills District. People had learned the factual information with regard to HIV/AIDS and learned the preventive measures to be taken up in their everyday lives. 

Promotion and Construction of Rural Haat 

Promotion and construction of Mandawain Rural Haat at Nongkasen village of West Khasi Hills District was started during the month of November, 2019. The construction work is completed and inaugurated by Shri. A Suting General Manager MBMA Shillong on 9th July, 2020. The aim of the programme is to enable the farmers to sell the farm products directly to the consumers. The programme is supported by NABARD in convergence with MGNREGS Mawthadraishan Block along with the contribution of the NGO.  Presently the Haat is working and farmers had benefited from the same.  

Producer Organisation Promoting Institution

Iatreilum Farmer Producer Organisation, Marang of West Khasi Hills District was promoted by the NGO with the support from the NABARD Regional Office Shillong. The FPO is registered under Meghalaya registration of Cooperative Society. It was formally inaugurated on 8th January, 2021. Presently 315 farmers are the shareholders and the annual turnover of the FPO is around 8 lakh.

Capacity Building Programme 

Various capacity building programmes for the rural people had been conducted. Till date 4 Panchutra training programme for SHG members, 4 leadership training for rural youth and 6 Financial Training programmes had been conducted in various location of West Khasi Hills District. These training programme were support by NABARD and Financial Literacy Centre, Nongstoin.

Livelihood & Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDPs) 

The programme is supported by NABARD. LEDPs project's locations are: 

600 SHG members were trained under the programme. All of them had started taken up the activities. 

Behavioural Change Management 

40 villages in West Khasi Hills District had been provided training on Behavioural Change Management with regard to COVID – 19 by the NGO. The programmes was supported by the National Health Mission Shillong Branch. The numbers of participants attended in the programme are around 1200 persons. People benefited from the programme as they had learned the basic concept on COVID- 19 and how to prevent its spread by following the Behavioural Change Management and maintain health protocols.  

Livelihoods Promotion of Marginalised Households in Mawroh, Domkseh and Nongshillong

The project is supported by IDeA – the ant, Guwahati and Caring Friends Mumbai. The project location is Mawroh, Domkseh and Nongshillong village of Mawthadraishan Block. The main aims of the project are to create livelihood options for the marginalized households of these villages. Squash and Ginger cultivation were chosen as the main crops to be promoted. Till date, training on squash, Turmeric and ginger cultivation for 150 selected farmers, 36 farmers provided with no interest loans, 150 households started squash cultivation on a bigger scale, 6 households received support from MGNREGS Mawthadraishan Block for making proper trellis, three exposure visits (two to BRDC and one to Nalbari Assam) had been conducted. 

Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDP) 

This programme is supported by NABARD. Project Location: Kriangrin Mawshynrut Block, Mawshut Mairang Block & Rangblang Mawkyrwat Block. 90 SHG members had been trained on piggery, poultry, food and fruit processing. 70 Trainees had started the activities and earned additional income 

Capacity Building for Adoption of Technology – Training – cum-Exposure visit Programme 

Two Capacities Building for Adoption of Technology Cum Exposure Visit supported by NABARD and implemented by Dawn was conducted on 15th & 16th December, 2021 at ICAR NEH region, Umiam and on 26th to 28th July, 2022 at VTC Kyrdem kulai. The farmers had learned a lot from the programme and put the learning into practice 

Farmer Collectivisation for Up-scaling Production and Marketing System(FOCUS) 

This programme is supported by MBMA and the Project Location is  Mawshynrut Block. Formation and promotion of Producer groups and collective marketing is the aim of the project. Till date 497 PGs promoted and bank account opened. 176 PGs received support from MBMA 

Promotion and Facilitation of Rural Mart  

This programme is supported by NABARD. The Project Location: is Pyndengumiong, Mairang. Providing marketing outlet for rural products is the aim of the programme. The mart started functioning from November 2022 onward. The farmers, rural artisans and SHG members are benefitting from the mart in selling their products at a better price. 

Training on Integrated Farming System 

This programme is supported by MSSDS. The Project Location is Wahrinong, Mawthadraishan Block. The programme aim at providing skill training for the farmers of the area. 30 farmers attended the 200 hours long training on Integrated Farming System. The programme benefitted the farmers in skill development and linkages with other related institutions 

It has been the effort of Dawn, Pyndengumiong (Lumiew) to identify and promote local leaders and volunteers especially women and youths in villages that had been intervened. These leaders and volunteers are actively involved in planning and implementing of development activities. Ensuring community participation in all our activities is another effort that we had made. This had help in creating a sense of ownership in all our development initiatives. Environment conservation is another issue that the NGO had been discussing and encouraging the people to take initiatives. In short, all the initiatives and development programmes of Dawn are aimed at facilitating the marginal communities to attain self reliance.
